This is it. Finally. Oh I know, people look at far more houses than I did before finally choosing. But I limited myself a lot, only a certain zip code, no more than a specific amount of money, no less than a certain number of rooms. There were several I didn't see the inside of because the tenants were not cooperative (or the sellers failed to help their tenants be cooperative) people are a pain in the tush about setting up showings. I'm convinced that a LOT of people put their places on the market without being all that serious about selling

So a little "history" on this 99 year old place. About 4 years ago I saw this house listed for sale for about what I'm paying for it. I thought to myself.. "If you can get a house for that much in Albany then I can manage a house" The house went on and off the market that year, I looked at it every time it came up on the realtor pages and really liked the looks of it. It wasn't on the market when I started looking back in September. It came on the market the week I decided to start looking for a house when the sellers of the first place didn't come through on the contract. I told my broker I wanted to see it. Honestly I don't think she was enthusiastic.

We went over one evening after work and I walked through the french doors, and the second set of french doors and saw the pocket doors between the hall and living room and knew this was my house. It needs work, there are missing lighting fixtures and other small things. But there are ceiling medallions and wonderful lintels, a wall to wall built in china closet in the dining room.

The downstairs has a living room, formal dining room, eat in kitchen, bathroom and a room that they have listed as a bedroom. The washer, dryer hookups are in the kitchen (I wanted washer and dryer hookups on the first floor YAY!) There's also a couple closets. The basement is huge, the full size of the house, walk out to the yard from the back room. There are 3 semi finished rooms, the furnace and water heater are in their own room, another small room leads to another bath that only has a toilet in it, I plan to work on that.

The stairs to the upstairs aren't the real narrow stairs that so many downtown townhouses have so that was a plus. There are 5 bedrooms upstairs. 2 big ones, a mid sized one that opens from the master, and 2 smaller ones. The closets are decent sized. There's also a furnace room up there as well. It's a one family house, but there are 2 furnaces. That will help regulate the heat in this place. It's not HUGE... not the way so many houses are these days.. but it's about 2000 square feet, which for this apartment dweller is great.
